Southwest takes Polity Bowl victory
Dec 12, 2009
For the first time since 2003, Seminary of the Southwest and friends won the annual flag football game against students from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. When the hour-long game was over on the cold, sunny field at nearby St. Andrew's Episcopal School, the score was 12-7 in favor of the Southwest Thuribulls.
Stephen Kidd, senior organizer and coach from the diocese of Dallas, attributed Southwest's success this year to the relative youth of its players and the team's will to win. "It's been a long time since a Southwest victory. We really wanted this one."
Everyone in the seminary community is invited to play in the polity bowl and this year two alumni joined the team in addition to several students in the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest.
Southwest took home the trophy, which resides on the campus of the winning team, until the next Polity Bowl game in December 2010.
