Seminary of the Southwest continues intensive sessions for ministry practitioners
May 24, 2010
AUSTIN, TEXAS -- "Forming Youth for Christian Vocation" will be the focus of a five day session for ministry practitioners at Seminary of the Southwest in May.
Dr. Jana Struková, assistant professor of Christian education and formation at Southwest and director of the Diploma Program in Christian Education, will teach the session May 24-28.
Registration deadline is May 16. Room and board on campus are included in the $1,200 registration fee.
The Diploma Program in Christian Education (DCE) builds on the legacy of the Certificate Program for Youth Ministry and Christian education which was launched in 1998 at Southwest. The DCE follows a new curriculum and a distinctive set of learning objectives for the non-credit one week sessions in January and May on the seminary campus.
Part of the seminary's Center for Christian Ministry and Vocation, the diploma program gives ministry practitioners the opportunity to enrich their experience of the field in ways that are focused, coherent, and solidly grounded in Bible, church history, systematic theology, ethics and practical theology.
Thirteen youth ministers and Christian education leaders gathered at Southwest for four days in January to study with ethics professor, Dr. Scott Bader-Saye, who led the week's session focused on "Money, Boredom and Fear: Moral Formation and Youth Culture".
The participants came from churches in Colorado, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Texas. Seven of the students were returning and six were new to the program.
Registration for the May 2010 session can be completed online or by contacting admissions@ssw.edu
