Free General Convention Online Course

Jun 01, 2009

Seminary of the Southwest is only Austin site for free online General Convention course from Episcopal Divinity School June 1-5

Thanks to the Diocese of Texas, you can learn more about the upcoming General Convention of the Episcopal Church during a free afternoon webcast Monday through Friday, June 1-5, on the campus of Seminary of the Southwest.

Seminary of the Southwest is the only Austin area site that will stream the Episcopal Divinity School online course. The webcast can be seen in Room 259 from 2 to 4pm. EDS is charging $150 per person for its "General Convention Course: Online Access" course but the Diocese is paying a group rate to show the course at the seminary, in Houston and other parts of the diocese. There is no need to register or pay anything to attend the webcast.

The EDS webcast - part of that seminary's Online School - is designed to help new deputies and interested others learn about the governance of the Episcopal Church. EDS Professors Ed Rodman and Ian Douglas introduce viewers to the history of General Convention, the formal and informal processes and politics that inform its operation and the key personalities who provide leadership. Emphasis will be placed on the resolutions and reports published in the General Convention Blue Book with equal attention paid to issues and processes.

Seminary of the Southwest is just north of the University of Texas along Duval between Rathervue Place (East 31st Street) and E. 32nd Street. A visitors parking lot is at the southeast corner of Duval and 32nd with entrance off 32nd. Please note that non-permit parking along streets that circle the seminary is prohibited during daytime hours
