Cynthia Briggs Kittredge named Dean of Community Life

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge has been named Dean of Community Life at Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas.
In his announcement, Dean and President Doug Travis said, "Cynthia is the obvious person to hold this important new position on the campus. She holds the respect of students, faculty and staff in her wise and careful insights regarding a hospitable community life, respect for all voices, collaboration in teaching and learning, and spiritual formation in the Anglican tradition."
Kittredge will chair the Community Life and Worship Committee and facilitate communication and coordination of community events and transitions, worship, formation, and pastoral care for the entire community-staff, faculty, students and families. She assumes this new position as she continues teaching and other academic responsibilities.
Professor Kittredge holds the Ernest J. Villavaso, Jr. Chair of New Testament at Seminary of the Southwest where she has been on the faculty since 1999. She is author of Conversations with Scripture: The Gospel of John and Community and Authority: The Rhetoric of Obedience in the Pauline Tradition. She is a contributor to the Oxford Annotated Bible, and co-edited The Bible in the Public Square: Reading the Signs of the times and Walk in the Ways of Wisdom: Essays in Honor of Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza.
Before joining the Southwest faculty, Dr. Kittredge taught at Harvard University and the College of the Holy Cross. She is a priest on staff at Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin.
