The Rev. J. Scott Mayer, a 1992 Seminary of the Southwest graduate, will be consecrated bishop of the Diocese of Northwest Texas on March 21, 2009.

Bishop-elect Mayer had served Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene, Texas, since 1994. Following seminary graduation he was ordained in the Diocese of Dallas and was curate of St. James Church in Texarkana before being called to Northwest Texas.

The diocesan bishop election took place on November 22. Mayer will be the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Northwest Texas and succeeds the Rt. Rev. Charles James Cook, recently retired professor at Southwest, will preach the sermon.

Bishop-elect Mayer and spouse, Kathy, have two grown children and one grandchild.
