It is easy to become complacent about the miracle of the Incarnation. Chances are we grew up going to church and know the story so well. This miracle of miracles no longer amazes us as it should. But Advent is such a rich season because it offers us a chance to embrace anew a sense of wonder that Christ left the perfection of the Trinitarian relationship to walk among us and show us the Way. Our complacency shaken, we are able to sense that we are loved by our Maker more than we can possibly imagine.

During this season, as we look ahead with anticipation to the coming of our Lord and Savior, let us be grateful for all of the blessings that flow out of His love. And, along with the Psalmist, let our whole being proclaim that, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Loving God, open our hearts and minds to the awe inspired by the miracle of Christ’s Incarnation. As we realize the magnitude of your love for us, give us grateful hearts that acknowledge you as the true source of abundance and love, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
