As I read Matthew 7, I am reminded of my days
as a coach. I would spend hours breaking
down the fundamentals of volleyball to college
athletes. Each day was filled with repetitions designed to push them physically so that in the heat of a match, their bodies could rely on muscle memory to reduce the chance of making mistakes. At the end of the week, we would put all of that practice into action.
There was no guarantee that mistakes would not be made, but the work we put into practicing together helped build trust in each other. My goal was to teach my athletes to love the journey and all of the successes, the failures, the wins and the losses that come with it.
Gracious God, help us trust in the journey and place faith in our hearts as we prepare for your coming, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
