The Rev. Dr. Roger Paynter is Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Austin. He served four congregations in Texas and Mississippi before coming to Austin in 1996. Involved in community, social justice, spiritual direction and ecumenical/interfaith issues throughout his ministry, Dr. Paynter was one of the founders of the former Mayor's Racial Reconciliation Task Force in Austin and co-sponsor of its Statement on Racial Reconciliation. He is a graduate of the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Direction and some of his doctoral work was completed at Mansfield College, Oxford University.
