A graduate of Seminary of the Southwest, John M. Hornsby is in his second decade of workplace counseling ministry within the San Antonio-based Zachry Industrial, Inc. After working for Zachry for ten years as a manager, he created and implemented a Chaplain/Employee Assistance Program for the company's 16,000 employees. The ministry involves taking help-line phone calls and walk-in appointments for troubled employees and/or their family members. Chaplain work includes dealing with daily life issues and leadership coaching, as well as jobsite tragedies and multi-issue cases within the company. He was promoted to Director of Employee Engagement in early 2008. In addition to overseeing his previous work, Mr. Hornsby works at creating a corporate environment where every employee (and applicant) feels connected to the organization - where they are known, understood and valued. He lectures frequently on corporate chaplaincy including a Monday Connection talk on the Southwest campus in 2004.
