Amber, The shower water is cold because there is no water heater.  The weather is always above 70 so usually a chilly shower feels great! I think the main reason there is no heater is that the power situation here is unreliable. All of Port au Prince and the surrounding cities’ power comes from one dammed river and there is just not enough power to go around.  Blackouts are a daily occurrence and can last hours at a time.  Apparently, parts of the city with business offices experience fewer blackouts but here in Croix de Bouquets (as I was typing this the power just went out) it happens all the time.  Dishes are washed outside in cold water, hand sanitizer takes the place of hot water in the bathroom sink, and laundry is left to soak in huge bowls in the sun – clean water is a priority in Haiti, hot water is not.                                                      -Kellaura
