Institutional funds for seminarians who qualify are described in the Catalog (www.ssw.edu/academics/catalog/). The funds available from the institution may change from year to year, so it is important to consult the most recent issue of the Catalog. Some examples of institutional funds would be full tuition or half tuition scholarships that are available in certain programs supplemented by institutional work study.
MDiv, MAR, DAS and DTS †
For students in the above named programs, up to 100% financial aid is available to eligible full-time students (12 hours or more). Please refer to the most recent issue of the catalog for the grant and work-study amount. This represents a full-time, full tuition scholarship.
Up to 50% financial aid is available to eligible part-time students (11 credit hours or less) in the above named programs.
MAC, MCPC, MSF, DSF and DTS †
For students in the above named programs, up to 50% financial aid is available to those students who are eligible regardless of the number of credit hours taken. In addition, students in these programs are eligible to participate in work study, subject to the availability of assignments and funding.
† DTS students taking a majority of their courses from the daytime curriculum on the non-ordination track will be eligible for up to 80% institutional financial aid. DTS students taking a majority of their courses from the daytime curriculum on the ordination track will be eligible for up to 100% institutional financial aid. DTS students taking a majority of courses from the Center program, will be eligible for up to 50% institutional financial aid.
Additional Information – Institutional Financial Aid
Financial aid is available to eligible students as long as the institutional funds are available. Scholarship funds have been made possible by generous donors, and the majority of scholarship funds have been restricted by the donors for students preparing for ordained ministry. Therefore, at the current time, there are fewer scholarships available for non-ordination track programs. Seminary of the Southwest strives to be as generous as possible with available institutional financial aid resources.
Renewal of scholarships is always dependent on available funds and upon a student’s demonstrated financial need and other eligibility requirements.
When a financial aid award includes a work-study assignment, the student is required to complete the minimum requirements of that assignment.
Increases in tuition may or may not be accompanied by changes in the amount of aid.
Seminarians who qualify and receive full-tuition institutional aid are required to apply to at least two outside scholarships each year beginning their Middler year. A list of outside scholarship opportunities can be found on the seminary’s Intranet, or by contacting the Financial Aid Office.

Southwest does not participate in private or alternative loan programs.
